The waves were gentle as they lapped against the sand, a soft sound that all creatures dream to hear while they slumber. It is the ultimate song of the beach, a song that never fails to be heard; or to cease. It draws them in with its soothing sound, as it has done with a red female. She walked along the wet sand, the tiny grains surrounding her paws before she tugged it away from the earth. The salty water lapped at her legs, pulling her fur back with it as it rolled towards the horizon. Looking over her shoulder, she saw that her prints were being erased, no proof that she had even been there. It was calming to know that, no one would know that she had been here. With a heavy sigh she walked forward once more, the sand sucking at her paws.
Echo glanced out at the water, her eyes glittering in the moonbeam. The moons light danced across the waters surface, almost like a single beam had been shattered into a million little pieces. It extended across the entire mass of liquid. It was mesmerizing, drawing the female towards it. She longed to race into the water, but she wasn't the strongest swimmer. The strong oceans tide would easily suck her deep into its belly, and she would never be seen again. She shuttered, forcing her eyes to focus on the area before her. Echo licked her lips, pulling in salt from the waves. She had once again left the lands of her pack, and was surprised that she hadn't been caught. Hayashi hadn't pulled her aside to say anything, so she thought that it was okay. Shaking her head she threw aside the thought, not letting her mind focus on it.
There were so many other things that closed in on her mind, making her shake her head forcefully to scatter them. Her past was floating around in her mind, like it always did. Not one day could go by without it haunting her, it was an ever present drone in her mind. She cast her gaze into the sky, gazing across the vast expanse of pin-pricked lights. The stars held much meaning to her, she did believe that her pups were up there. She liked to believe that they were looking down on her, urging her to move forward with her life. She needed to move on, not to forget, but it was so hard. How could she ever stop feeling the deep sadness she did for her lost ones? They were killed before her very eyes! Every time she spoke she was reminded of her past. Every time she didn't hear anything out of her left ear she remembered their screams. Every time she saw her scar she thought of being left there to die. Every time she saw another wolf, she thought of the damage they could do to her. She could trust no one, and was always scared when she did. This meant that she was always on the alert, as much as she could with only one hearing ear. Thankfully her other senses had grown stronger to accommodate the loss.
Echo was trying to focus on the things around her, but the ocean was too loud. She was walking with her one hearing ear closest to the waters edge, meaning that all she could hear was the lapping of the waves. Her nose was being assaulted by the saltiness of the water, as well as her mouth. Her eyes had to do all the word, the pale blue orbs dancing across the expanse of land in front of her. She had to be aware, she couldn't lose focus...

Sphuul The beach was a calming place. The ocean provided a salty embrace, filling the nose and the mind with its presence. The sound of the water crashing to shore also filled Sphuul's ears, and he reveled in the change of scenery. Too long he had been thrown into silence, into stillness, that the noise was a physical relief to him. He gave himself to the ocean breeze, allowing it to pull him along. He had been walking close to the water, his paws becoming wet and sandy to cover his tracks with every swell of the sea. It was not uncomfortable. The touch was welcome, and he watched his feet as he walked, watched the water caress his paws, pulling at his fur as it receded back into the body of water.
He thrust his head up into the air, deeply inhaling the soothing sea air. It was palliating, and he felt like a ton of weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He forgot about his past, he forgot about everything. He was free, and he felt like he could jump up and fly through the air. He picked up his pace, speeding into a jog, then a lope, then a flat out run as he reveled in the glory of his new found freedom. What a rush!
He was so preoccupied in his adrenaline filled dash that Sphuul didn't see the female in front of him until he was almost too close to stop. He skidded to a stop, and at the same moment a wave came to shore. His skid splashed the fae with sand and salt water, and he froze, his eyes wide in shock and fear. He automatically crouched, no longer feeling the water or the breeze. How could he have let this happen? He didn't see her size, didn't see anything but her eyes, and the fact that she was a wolf was enough. She was dangerous, and he had almost run into her. His body seemed frozen, his nose twitching frantically against the sea breeze. His eyes were frozen in terror, locked onto hers. What the hell are you going to do? He screamed at himself. But he didn't move. He couldn't. He wouldn't. His sense left him as he stood, frozen, simultaniously towering over her even in his crouch.

Another sign pushed out of Echo's maw as she shook her head, trying to rid herself of bad thoughts. She was here alone, wasn't she? This was her time to be by herself and relax, enjoy the sound of the ocean and let it sooth her aching soul. It was like a spa for wolves, and she was glad that she was enjoying this moment alone. Well, she did have her thoughts to accompany here. Those, well those never left her. They were always there, nagging her and barking in her mind. At least she would never truly be alone... Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing, she did not know.
Echo's eyes had traveled to the water while she thought, even though she knew that they should be on the land before her. It would be okay though, it was the dead of the night and not another soul was out here to scare the crap out of her. Well, that's what she thought. A sudden spray of water and sand snapped her head forward as a harsh yelp echoed across the beach. She blinked several times to clear the debris from her pale eyes so that she could see once again. Shaking herself, she realized that there was a wolf in front of her, and very close to her. Echo yelped again, tripping on her paws as she scrambled backwards. She froze then, dropping low to the ground in a submissive crouch. Her eyes were wide and she looked at the ground between them, the ocean waves lapping at her belly. She quickly glanced up, careful not to meet the wolf's eyes. Then, she realized that he too was crouching.
The wet female blinked up at the brute, who was towering over her. Even though he was crouching, he wasn't even close to touching the earth. Echo whined softly, lowering herself even lower. He wasn't going to hurt her, was he? She remained frozen, not even knowing what to do with herself. The male was crouching like her... but was he crouching to jump on her? Was he going to add to the puckered scar that ran from her ear to her muzzle? Her ears flattened against her skull, still blinking to try and clear some final grains of sand from her eyes. What next?

Sphuul As the fae moved, he cringed, his ears flattening against his skull and a grimace parting his lips. A soft whine escaped his throat, and his eyes closed, waiting for the blow that he was sure would eventually come, heavy and painful in it's fury. This female would not forgive him for being this close. Hell, she had just sprayed water in her face. No thoughts of protecting himself, defending himself entered in his mind, and he lowered himself closer to the ground, feeling his belly scraping against the sand. There he waited, which seemed like an eternity, his stomach covered in salty water and sand, and his eyes squeezed shut in terror.
After about ten waves pulled at his long, silvery legs and stomach, his eyes slowly peeked open. Was she still there? As he glanced through his cracked lid, he saw her red frame and automatically shut his eyes again, paws tensing in the sand. Why was she not killing him? What in the world was going on here? Slowly, tentatively, he opened his eyes to look at her. She was frozen in the same position he was in, except her smaller frame made her look less gangly and stupid. He felt no embarassment, for fear was still siezing his heart and soul. No matter. This would not end well. Another soft whine escaped his maw, and he lowered his head, almost touching the sand itself, his amber eyes peeking at her through his lashes.
He seemed to remain in that position for a long time, until the swell of water came back, covering his muzzle and filling his mouth with salt water. Female temporarily forgotten, he thrust his head up, shaking his head in disgust, his tongue flopping about as he attempted to remove the salt. He licked his lips disdainfully at the water, then froze, his eyes peeking at the female once more. Had she moved? What was going to happen? Salt water tasted like shit. He wanted to shake his head again, to lick his lips until he could no longer taste the water, but he froze once more, his eyes locked on the fae. Would she make a move? When would she decide to attack him? Will she even move? Thoughts swirled in his mind in a black hole of terror and misery as he relived his last moments with her. He was sure that would happen again, and his eyes glazed with pure fear and withdrawel.

Once her eyes were able to focus, she saw nothing but the giant silver brute in front of her. He had to be at least 7 inches taller than her, his large, bulky form dominating her without him even trying. He whined, and she returned the sound. He watched as his eyes squeezed shut in terror, and Echo didn't know what to do. It was obvious that they were both scared to the point of these positions, but who would make the first move? What if he was just playing her, much like she had been played with before. Would he make her fall in love with him, then crush her soul again? She couldn't handle it, not at all. Her whole frame shook, both from fear and the fact that she was soaking wet and her belly was sitting in ocean water. If this male didn't kill her first, she would freeze to death. That was it, this was the end of her.
The male crouched down even further, his head almost level with her own. She dipped it lower then, and suddenly jumped up. Echo yelped in fear and shrunk into herself, her eyes squeezing shut. This was it! She was dead. She heard a lapping noise and chances a peak out of her eye, and saw him trying to get rid of the salty taste in his mouth. Then he looked at her, fear still dancing in his eyes. Suddenly, even though fear gripped her belly, her cheeks bulged with air as she tried to swallow her laughter. Then, she could hold it no longer. Air hissed out of her lips and a burst of laughter left her lips.
Echo remained in her crouch, not moving from her position, even though she was laughing harder than she had in a long time. They were both scared of each other! No one was making a move towards each other, yet they were both cowering in fear. Once she got a hold of herself she bit her tongue, her eyes scanning his form carefully. She didn't want to move yet, both in fear of scarring him further and making him attack her. Which would happen? Biting her lip gently, she thought of what to do. Her pale blue eyes blinked in question, almost as if she was asking the male if she could stand up. Her legs were beginning to shake with effort, it was hard for her to hold herself up. Soon she would flop right into the sound.

Sphuul Sphuul's eyes bulged open as she began to laugh. He turned his head to look at her, a rueful frown on his face. What was funny to her? She remained still as the laughter bubbled from her maw, and she still held the fear in her eyes, but she seemed to find something extremely funny. He actually looked around himself before he realized she had been laughing at him... He looked at her, cocking his head slightly. What had he done that had broke her so completely?
His confusion got the best of him, and he watched her carefully. "What's so funny?" He said the words softly, the question clear in his eyes, confusion coloring his features. His legs were trembling with the awkward way he held himself, and he gave in, allowing himself to sit up a little. His legs felt enormously better, and he studied the female carefully. After a moment, her size actually registered in his mind. Holy shit, she's tiny. He understood now why she was laughing. Sphuul had been scared stiff by this little female. Before he could stop himself, a small chuckle escaped his maw. He clamped it shut, automatically crouching down once more.
Sphuul slowly looked back at the female, and a question framed her face, clearly asking him if she was allowed to stand. He nodded almost too slightly to be noticed, and rose himself, lowering himself into a sitting position immediately to seem less threatening. His head lowered, muzzle pointed to the ground, while his ebony framed amber eyes studied her carefully. The small female was a bright shade of red, and her icy blue eyes were stunning. The heavy scar along the side of her face was a surprise, but he did not react to it. He had the same scarring, and more, everywhere on his body. He had been lucky, he had been wounded where fur would cover wounds. Her mark would stay for the rest of her life. His ears pricked slowly, curiosity starting to break through the ice cold fear that still shook him. What was her story? Hell, he wasn't going to ask her, but he could wonder. She had to have been frightened out of her damn mind, him barreling up to her, almost into her, and spraying her face with ocean water and sand. He had to bite his lip to keep from smiling again, and he looked to the ground. Good lord, he had made a fool of himself. He didn't quite know what to do then, so he waited for her next move.

The look on the male's face really didn't help her laughter. It took even longer for her to reign it in when he was looking at her like a confused pup. Echo felt a few cracks slither up her ice wall of fear, air whistling out of them. They were only small cracks, but better than nothing happening at all. He looked around himself as if looking for something she was laughing at, which made her sides heave painfully. Oh boy! She had to calm down. He asked her what was so funny, and her head shook. "We-we're b-b-b-oth s-s-so sc-sc-ared of eac-h ot-th-ther," she stuttered, speaking for the first time this night. Finally controlling her laughter, she calmed down but remained frozen. Ouch... her legs were really starting to hurt. She longed to shake them out.
He was standing, the couched, nodded, stood, than sit. Her head spun with all of his movement, she had to shake her head before she realized that she was able to straighten up. Finally she stood, slowly, and shook out her legs. Then, glancing at the male, she shook her entire body to rid of of the salty water. Echo backed up then, walking out of the water and onto the sand. She was tired of standing in the water and she was getting cold. Her coat was not that thick, meant for warmer weather, and the water was chilling her to the bone. Looking at the male, she saw that his head was lowered, hanging down. A sudden pang struck her heart, and she slowly walked up to the brute. She was close to him, and shuttered with fear. Her breath hitched in her throat, but she put her muzzle under his head and gently pushed up upwards so that he was at full height. "D-d-don-'t be af-af-ra-aid, p-p-p-plea-se," she stuttered, then stepped back to her original, sandy seat.
Echo sat in the sand, the tiny grains clinging to her wet fur. Still she would not meet her eyes, even after she had touched him. Her body shook once more, fear still glazing her eyes. He was quite a looker, tall with a silvery coat mixed with darker colours. This night was turning out to be rather interesting.

Sphuul Her stuttered reply hit Sphuuls ears and he gave a soft smile. It barely turned the corners of his mouth up, but it was a smile, and it changed things. He didn't move, however, but watched as she stood, shook herself and moved away. He was preparing to stand up himself when his ear flicked to the side. She was moving, closer to him. He tensed, and almost yelped when her muzzle touched his face, pushing it up ever so slightly. Instead, a shuddering squeak came out, and he jolted nearly a foot into the air before he settled. It was not painful. Her nose was warm and he felt confused as he looked up at her. She had touched him, when she was obviously shaken by being near him at all.
Watching her sitting there, shaking, chased the ice from his veins. He stood, walking slowly over to her, gently pressing his nose to her shoulder before passing her, sitting a few feet from the fae. The movement was meant to be reassuring, but he found himself frightened in making the action. What was possessing himself so thoroughly that he would try to comfort her? The breeze blew by them again, and he shivered. Realizing he was still soaking wet, he stood, feeling his belly fur drooping, dripping salt water. He shook himself, feeling a slight relief of the water, then sat once more. Sphuul watched her carefully. She was so small, and she was shivering violently. Slowly, carefully, he moved, sitting in a spot that would block the worst of the wind from her. He felt the wind on his back, parting his fur instead of hitting her.
She was a pretty, delicate female. A small frame, with a face to match. She certainly was a looker. How strange this day had become... As he watched her, he slowly opened his maw, speaking softly. "I won't be afraid if you won't." Trying to give her a reassuring smile, his face twisted into a grimace. There were no promises. He was scared stiff of this little fae. Would she act like Reyna had? He shuddered at her name, cringing slightly. No, don't think about her. As he opened his eyes once more, he watched the girl carefully. What would she do next?

[imghttp://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j361/morgan_alexander1/Echo.jpg [/img] The corner of the males mouth twitched up in a slight smile, but she barley saw it. She was focusing on being so close to this male and placing her face so close to his own. He made a noise and jumped, causing her eyes to open wide as she scrambled back a few paces. Her heart was ramming in her chest and she froze, her paws splayed about her. She quickly backed up, whining softly. She really didn't mean to scare him like that... She began to shake even harder, shivers racking her body until she thought that she would fall right out of her skin. It was so cold... Echo's teeth chattered slightly and she wished that her fur was thicker. Echo wrapped her black tail around her paws, trying to gain a bit of warmth there. She looked at the brutes male, slightly jealous of his thick coat. He probably wasn't cold at all.
Suddenly the tall wolf stood up and walked up to her. Her head lowered and her ears pinned back, pulling her body up into a standing position. She was poised to run, but he simply pressed his nose to her shoulder. Warmth suddenly chased some of the chills away, and she once again found her seat. If wolves could purr, Echo would have done so in that moment. Instead she let her tail slap on the sand a few times, her lips pulling up in a small smile. Maybe everything was going to be okay. Everything would be fine. Her eyes followed him as he moved behind her, and she positioned herself so that they were facing each other. When he got up and moved again, her smile was replaced with a frown. Once again she adjusted her position, only to realize that his large frame was blocking most of the cold, ocean's wind from her body. A genuine smile spread across her maw, her tail thumping on the earth a few more times. He was a nice male, and she began to feel her fear slide away from herself.
More words left his lips, and she felt her smile grow slightly. "D-dea-l," she whispered. Realizing just how warm he must be, Echo scooted slightly closer to him. Her ears pinned slightly, but she remembered her words and forced them to stand back up. She met his eyes, then looked at the space between them. Shuffle closer. Eyes met, ground looked at. Shuffle. Eyes, ground. Finally she was close enough to feel his heat on her pelt, a soft sigh emitting from her maw. There was enough room between them that if he were to lower his head, he couldn't bite her. His legs were long, and he could probably scratch her. Shaking the thought away, she looked up again and was careful not to meet his eyes. "I-I'm Ec-ec-ho."

Sphuul As the female began to smile, he relaxed a little. Just a little. Did he trust her? No. He didn't think he ever could. But he did know she wouldn't attack him. She wasn't capable of doing so, even though Sphuul would not lay a paw on her. Instinct was a powerful thing, and he gravitated towards her, feeling protective over her although she had scared the bejeezus outta him just a few moments ago. He smiled softly as she slowly began to scoot closer to him until they were close enough to feel each others body heat. He had not been this close to another wolf for a long time, but he strangely felt comfortable. It was unsettling, how he automatically began to become comfortable around the little fae.
Their deal made, he tried to take the fear from his face, tried to suck the feeling back inside himself, and partly managed to do it. As she spoke again, her stuttering muddling her words a little, it took him a moment to understand her. "Hi, Echo. I'm.. My name is.. Uh, Sphuul." Talking was strange to him. He hadn't used his voice in so long, and his voice broke the silence, coarse and rough, disuse staining his usually gentle voice. Sphuul looked down on Echo, the rueful look back on his maw, except it was colored with a soft smile. "I apologize for scaring you half to death. That salt water isn't something I'd like in my mouth, and I'm afraid I spewed it all over you." Another soft chuckle escaped his lips, and he cocked his head slightly. He had spoken more than he had meant to, babbling a bit. This was all so new to him, and he shifted a bit uncomfortably. Sphuul didn't like feeling uncapable of anything. He turned his eyes on the fae, his eyes darkening at the sight of her long scar.

She was so happy to see that he was smiling, and it made her own grow. So, they were reacting to each other and pushing back their fear slightly. This was major progress for her. She hardly trusted wolves, and trusted males even less. Males were the ones who had beat her and killed her pups before her eyes. She shivered, even though the heat from the male's body was warming her up. She didn't want to think about her past, it would make the fear return and double. She was glad that he wasn't moving away him her, and she longed to move even closer to him. This was so strange for her, she never wanted to be around anyone. Well, Nirco was an acceptation, but she had known him since he was a pup. This brute; she didn't even know his name. So why this connection?
Echo's eyes darted across his face, noticing that there was a little less fear in them. She still found it rather funny that he was afraid of her, she was so much smaller than him. If her little teeth and claws could even do any damage to him, he could easily over power her. She didn't want to think about this right now, so she blinked it away and swallowed some of her fear. This was going to be okay, he wasn't going to attack her. No male would be this kind to her and then kill her, that wouldn't do him any good and would waste a good deal of his time. He spoke his name, stumbling over his words slightly. She giggled softly, liking that she wasn't the only one who was having a hard time speaking. She could tell that he didn't talk often, just like her. "P-p-pleasure, Sp-sp-sphuul," she barked, shortening her sentence so that she could lessen her talking time. She hated speaking to strange wolves... her stutter embarrassed her. He apologized for scaring her, and a louder laugh past her lips. "Y-you g-g-ot me all w-w-w-et. B-b-but I'm s-so-sorry t-t-t-o, I pl-played a p-p-par-t in it-t t-t-t-o."
Echo felt his eyes on her, and looked up. Sphuul's eyes were darker, and she realized that he was staring at her scar. Her scar! Echo was usually on top of hiding that from wolves. She turned her head quickly, pressing the left side of her face against her body to hide the half circle scar. She didn't want him to see it, even though she knew it was too late. "D-do-n't," she whispered, shivering slightly. Echo cursed herself when a single tear ran down her right cheek, and she cursed even more when she realized that it was the side of her face that he could see. The femme whined softly, her eyes cast down at the white sand. She didn't want to talk about it...

Sphuul Sphuul gave a soft smile as she responded to his name. It took her a few tries to get it out, but she was successful. He gave another short chuckle as she also apologized. It had been his fault. He had nearly run into her! His eyes widened at imagining not being able to stop, crashing into the little fae with a massive amount of force. She would have either been crushed, or she would have flown backwards, landing in the sand on her back. His ears twitched back a little at the thought. That would be awful. Not just would he have hurt her, Sphuul would have scared the absolute shit out of both of them. She might have run, left him crouching in the sand, too shocked to move.
He shook his head slightly at the thought. As he refocused his eyes on the fae, she saw her eyes flicker. Echo had noticed him staring at the scar that marred her face. Reacting quickly, she pressed the scarred side of her delicate face to her shoulder, shivering. The word that passed through her lips stunned and sobered Sphuul. There was a story to that scar, and it must have been absolutely awful. He whined a little in apology and sympathy, and shakily pressed his nose against her shoulder, the one that was not covered by her head. Oh, if only she could see his. He had that a hundred times, marring his skin underneath his silvery fur. Sphuul sighed softly, his amber eyes shifting down. "Ahm, it's.. it's okay. I.. won't... uh won't, know." He could have slapped himself with a fish for stupid he sounded. Of course he didn't need to ask. It was her business. Sphuul barely knew this wolf. He didn't expect the fae to reveal her entire life to him, although he was curious. Why would she care if he was curious. He ground his teeth together softly, irritated with himself.

She skipped over his smiles, over his laugh, and noticed him staring. She became cold all over again, shaking like she had in the water. His eyes left her body and looked down as he choked on a few words. Echo looked up then, her pale blue eyes brighter with the dampness of tears in them. She felt a need to suddenly tell this wolf, something that she had not felt for a long time. Why this random connection? They knew nothing about each other, yet she felt the burning need to tell him about her past. Curiosity lit up his eyes, there was no way of hiding it. The female sighed softly, her red fur settling standing up slightly to warm herself. "M-my p-pu-ps were k-k-kkilled bef-fore my v-ver-ry ey-yes. Th-then I w-was b-b-b-eat and le-ef-ft t-t-t-to d-die. T-t-the wo-olve t-th-hat w-was sup-pp-ppose to lo-love m-me b-b-beat m-me t-t-t-oo, sa-aid he c-could n-n-nev-ver lo-ove so-omeone of m-my p-p-p-po-sition. H-he sp-spat on m-me and m-m-made m-me de-eaf in o-one ear."
A sob shook her body and she stumbled forward, not caring about how scared she was of this wolf any more. He knew what no one else knew, what she didn't want other wolves to know. She buried her face in his soft silvery fur, salty residue from the ocean burning her eyes. She didn't care, nothing mattered any more. She didn't care if this wolf ran away now. Okay, maybe she did care. Her breath hitched in her throat again, being so close to him, but the feeling of his fur on her brought her comfort. She felt safer now, like nothing else could harm her. "M-my bab-bies," Echo whispered, her ears pinned in her sadness.
Echo felt the bump of a scar when her nose dug into Sphuul's coat. Gently parting the fur she saw the puckered skin there. She blinked her surprise, then ran her nose along him until she felt more, and more. The femme pulled back enough so that she could meet his amber eyes, a question held in her watery blue ones. So she wasn't the only one with a tale to tell. Maybe that was why he was so afraid of her before. Her head was almost completely level with her shoulders, just to meet those amber eyes of his. So why was he so afraid of her? Echo didn't ask out right, just like he hadn't to her. She had chosen to share her story, and she would let him to the same.

Sphuul Sphuul was shocked when she turned to look at him, and even more so when she began to speak. His eyes widened in horror as he processed Echo's words. What a torturous thing to go through. As he struggled for something to say, a sob broke her, and she pressed up against him. Sphuul stiffened, his first reaction was to think That's it.. she's gonna kill me now. But as he waited, her breath hitched and she murmured about her pups, her lost children, stolen from her in a flash of cruelty and torture. This relaxed him immensely, and his head pressed against her back in comfort, the only part of her he could reach, for the rest of her body was pressed up against him.
Sphuul stiffened once more as her nose touched one of his scars. Echo seemed to sense it as well, and began to search for more, pressing along his skin to reveal the fur concealed scars that haunted his past, present, and future. As Echo pulled back to look at him, his eyes locked to hers. A question hung in the air, visible in her icy eyes, and he gave a soft sigh, which shook his entire body. This would not be easy, but Sphuul wanted to tell her. This fae had broken his heart with her tale, and it was only fair that he told her about his. He looked down, unable to meet her eyes as he spoke. He closed them, trying to will himself to speak clearly, calmly, without breaking down.
His maw opened before he was quite ready, and he felt himself speaking. "There was a wolf. Her name was Reyna." As Sphuul said her name, he shook again, in fear. "I fell in love with, uh, her. I was blind to her actions, and she, uh, used me as a kind of slave." He swallowed convulsively, then looked up suddenly to watch Echo. "I did everything for her. She used me until she grew tired of me, and then beat me within an inch of my life. She was stronger than me, and I didn't lay a paw on her, because I loved her too much. She left me for dead." Sphuul looked into her eyes, searching for her reaction. What would she do? Would she feel pity? Or would she laugh at him, as Reyna had done so many times before? He looked down, biting his lip softly. He felt foolish. "I shouldn't be alive."

The female watched as his eyes grew wide with horror, and she mutely nodded her head. Her tale was one that brought large brutes to their knees. For her to be here, to actually be alive was a miracle. She was thankful for every day that she had, although her haunting memories made it less enjoyable. She often wondered what it would be like if she had joined her pups, if she would be aware, if they would live among the stars together. She chased away those thoughts, not allowing herself to think about it. No, that would only bring back the tears. She raced to Sphuul, and felt him tense beneath her. She didn't care, if he was going to leave her too, let it be so. Then, suddenly he melted against her and rested his head on her back. A small smile pressed on her lips, even though she knew that he couldn't see it. She let her tail thump on the sand a few times, giving him something that he could see. He was making her feel better.
Then she felt the scar, and everything shifted again. He froze again, their eyes locking. She knew that she was making her question obvious, although it never left her lips. He sighed softly, and she pressed up against him slightly, comforting him in any way she could. Slowly she lifted her head so that her nose was on his chest, and gave him a quick, reassuring lick on the chest. A soft whine emitted from her maw as well. She knew was he was going through, and she wanted him to know that she was here for him. Even though they had met only today, they had a connection through their traumatic pasts.
His eyes didn't meet hers when he spoke, but her one hearing ear hung on his every word. He listened to his tale, her heart breaking for him. She nuzzled him softly, her warm nose gently brushing up against some of the scars. She knew was it was like, she didn't fight back either. She was lucky that only one scar remained, all others had healed perfectly. She also knew what it was like to be a slave, it is what she was at the moment. Every wolf was a slave to their past, but to be a Sklavin for another wolf was different. "I kn-now wh-hat you me-mean. I am a sl-lav-ve f-f-f-or a p-p-pack Alp-pha," Echo said quietly, not breaking eye contact for several heart beats. Her gaze broke away then, a blush heating her rusty cheeks. she was glad for her red fur, the colouring was not noticeable. She still wasn't use to holding eye contact, and that had been the longest instant of her doing so. Then he spoke four words that shook her entire frame. 'I shouldn't be alive...' The words rang though her head, and a growl rumbled in her throat. "N-ne-ver s-say t-t-tha-at, e-ev-ver!" she spat, her eyes flashing to his. "Y-yo-ou're a-ali-ve n-n-now, and n-n-ne-v-ver t-t-t-ak-ke th-th-at fo-f-f-or gr-ranted," Her voice was softer then, she knew that she probably scared the brute with her growl. "P-pl-plea-ase," she choked, tears pooling in her eyes.
